  1. An application may be submitted by any third-country national residing in the Republic of Cyprus, holding a status other than student, trainee, subsidiary protection holder, asylum seeker, or seasonal worker.
  2. The applicant must have legally and continuously resided in Cyprus for the last five years prior to submitting the application, holding a valid residence permit during this period.
  3. While the legislation requires language proficiency, the authorities reserve the right to approve the application without a certificate, depending on the applicant's background and circumstances.
  • The application processing time typically ranges from 6 to 12 months. However, the authorities may extend the processing time if necessary.
  • The initial residence permit is valid for 5 years.

Residents enjoy equal rights with Cypriot citizens in the following areas:

  • Access to employment and independent professional activity;
  • Education and vocational training, including scholarships for studies;
  • Recognition of professional diplomas, certificates, and other titles, according to the procedures outlined in the relevant laws;
  • The right to benefits arising from social insurance, as well as basic benefits arising from social assistance and social protection;
  • Tax advantages;
  • Access to goods and services and the provision of goods and services available to the public, as well as access to housing acquisition procedures and programs;
  • Freedom of association and registration and participation in workers' or employers' organizations, or in any organization whose members carry out specific activities, including benefits provided by such organizations;
  • Free access to the entire territory of the Republic.
     
  • Absence from the EU for more than 12 consecutive months.
  • Absence from the Republic of Cyprus for more than 6 consecutive years.
  • Obtaining a residence permit in another EU Member State.
