Temporary Suspension of Cyprus Passport and ID Card Issuance
The Cyprus Ministry of Interior has announced today 21st October 2025 a temporary suspension in the issuance of Cyprus identity cards, residency cards, and passports following a technical failure affecting the Population Archive System.
The suspension also applies to the fast-track (urgent) procedure for issuing travel documents.
While applications for passports and identity cards are still being accepted as normal at the designated offices, no documents can currently be issued until the system is fully restored.
The Population Archive Directorate, in cooperation with the Deputy Ministry of Research, Innovation and Digital Policy (IT Services Department), is actively working to resolve the issue as soon as possible.
The Ministry has expressed its apologies for the temporary disruption and has assured the public that an official update will be issued once services resume.
Our recommendation
Clients with pending or upcoming applications for Cyprus passports, ID cards, or residence permits should anticipate possible delays and plan accordingly. We will continue to monitor developments and provide updates as new information becomes available.
