EU Blue Card vs BCS Permit. Cyprus highly skilled non-EU nationals’ migration permit comparison
The table below compares the eligibility criteria, benefits, and key features of the Cyprus EU Blue Card and the BCS (Business Company Structure) Permit to help you better understand both options.
Regarding visa-free travel within the EU*
If Cyprus joins the Schengen Area for air and sea travel by the end of 2026, similar to Romania and Bulgaria, the BCS permit, and any temporary or permanent residency permits issued by the Republic of Cyprus could be recognized by Schengen member states.
In that case, both BCS Permit holders, and their family members would be able to travel visa-free within the Schengen Zone for up to 90 days within any 180-day period.
Currently, only the main applicant of the EU Blue Card can travel visa-free within the Schengen Zone, as long as the below documents are presented:
- The Blue Card
- A valid passport
- Proof of the business purpose of their stay.
This is a general overview and may be subject to changes based on future policy developments.
As of today 7th July 2025, the Migration Department of Cyprus is officially accepting applications for the EU Blue Card.
