Important Update Regarding Certification of Documents for Apostille
Effective from March 29, 2024, due to EU sanctions and restrictive measures, a new requirement has been introduced: now it is necessary for documents submitted for certification of the authorized official's signature to be accompanied by a responsible statement confirming that the individuals or companies mentioned in the documents are not subject to EU or UN sanctions.
Here are the key points:
- (a) The declaration must confirm that the company and/or individuals mentioned in the document are not subject to EU or UN sanctions, including their natural persons directors/secretaries/shareholders or ultimate beneficial owners.
- (b) This declaration is required for all documents related to Cypriot or non-Cypriot companies.
- (c) Documents will be kept in the District office. If received by 10:30 a.m., they will be prepared and delivered on the same day; otherwise, delivery will occur on the next business day.
Please note that previously private legal documents such as wills, agreements, and powers of attorney were not required to include a declaration, and/or there was a specific timeframe for their delivery or pickup.
From March 29, 2024, all such documents must be accompanied by a responsible declaration highlighting the key points mentioned above.
